Why do so many Christians struggle with health, fitness, and weight?
We have a Father in Heaven who always loves and always forgives. And sometimes… we take advantage of that love.
We say things like:
“God still loves me even if I’m out of shape.”
“God wants me to enjoy food.”
And yes - both are true. God does love you, and food is a gift. But God also desires your best.
The problem is, we settle for less.
God only wants our deepest desires for us.
Think about it:
Is your deepest desire really…
To feel guilty after every meal?
To regret another day of eating junk food?
To feel insecure in your own body when you look in the mirror?
To show up to work, church, or family tired and drained because of poor habits?
Gluttony promises comfort but leaves us with shame.
And here’s the hard truth: when we’re out of shape, overweight, and constantly low on energy, it makes it harder to lead, harder to love well, and harder to make an impact for the Kingdom.
Because how can we fight spiritual battles if we’re constantly battling our own body?
God didn’t design you to live this way.
Discipline is not punishment - it’s freedom.
Self-control isn’t about restriction—it’s about equipping you to do more, serve more, and lead more.
When you honor your body through healthy choices, you:
Gain energy to serve others.
Build confidence to step into leadership.
Experience clarity to hear God more clearly.
This isn’t about vanity. It’s about stewardship.
Your body is a temple. When you care for it, you’re caring for the vessel God gave you to do His work.
The question is…
Will you keep living in guilt and regret, or will you step into the life of clarity, energy, and purpose God intended for you?
I don’t write these emails to call you out.
I write these emails to remind myself of the person I once was, and the person I would be today if I never started to take my health seriously.
It was only getting worse:
Depression
Brain fog
Fatigue
Guilt
Insecurity
Regret
I was living a life I hated.
Every day felt the same - tired, foggy, and full of regret. I knew I wasn’t living up to who God called me to be. And deep down, I knew I couldn’t keep using grace as an excuse to stay stuck.
But what’s a problem without a solution?
Here’s what I did: I stopped chasing quick fixes. I stopped trying to punish myself with workouts or starve myself with diets. Instead, I asked a deeper question: “Why does this matter?”
And the answer was clear:
Because my health impacts my calling.
That shift in reasoning changed everything. When I saw health not as vanity, but as stewardship, the way I approached it completely transformed.
I began to:
Eat to fuel my body, not numb my emotions.
Train consistently, but not obsessively.
Build daily habits that honored God instead of chasing shortcuts.
And over time, the depression, guilt, and insecurity started to fade. Not overnight - but step by step, as I built a life I didn’t want to escape from.
This is the same shift you can make.
Shift your reasoning: It’s not about looking good, it’s about being equipped to serve.
Understand your “why”: Health is Kingdom work.
Create better habits: start with one small health-building habit today and build from there.
Here’s a few things that really helped me control my eating and take care of my body (I still do these):
Pray before meals
Walk after meals
Eat in silence, or with people (no Netflix, YT, etc)
Drink more water (especially before meals)
Eat slower
Listen for when your body says it’s full
Eat more whole foods, and less processed foods
Plan your meals ahead of time
Don’t eat too late at night
Eat the protein part of the meal first
If you’re ready to honor God with your body, don’t wait until tomorrow - start now.
One decision today can be the seed of transformation tomorrow.
Trust me you’ll feel so much better.
I’m rooting for you.
Respond to this email with any questions, and let me know which new habits you’re starting today (right now).
Have a great weekend!
